Janelle Mone says she identifies as pansexual

Janelle Monae is letting the rumors be true.

The "Pynk" singer opened up about her sexual orientation in the new Rolling Stone cover story, the first time she's discussed her personal preferences.

"Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women _ I consider myself to be a free-a _ motherf _ cker," she told the magazine.

At first, she said, she identified as bisexual "but then later I read about pansexuality and was like, 'Oh, these are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am."

While bisexuality is being attracted to two genders, pansexuality is typically defined as being attracted to all genders, or attracted regardless of gender.

Monae has primarily dodged questions about her sexuality throughout her career, including recently amid a slew of rumors about her relationship with Tessa Thompson; she still wouldn't comment on the "Thor: Ragnarok" star.

With her new album, "Dirty Computer," she wants to start a conversation.

"I want young girls, young boys, nonbinary, gay, straight, queer people who are having a hard time dealing with their sexuality, dealing with feeling ostracized or bullied for just being their unique selves, to know that I see you," she told Rolling Stone. "This album is for you. Be proud."
