Jane the Virgin is about to embark on its final season, but it looks like the series’ story is not over yet.
The CW Television Network has ordered a pilot for a Jane the Virgin spin-off – and Gina Rodriguez, who plays the titular character, has shared her own announcement on Instagram.
“We got good news from the CW! Jane will be birthing a SPIN OFF!!!!! Jane The Novelas!!!” she wrote next to a photo of herself in which she sports a baby bump – an accessory reminiscent of the first season, during which her character becomes pregnant after accidentally getting artifically inseminated.
Elias Janssen, who plays Jane’s son Mateo, also appears in the image.
The spin-off, a telenovela anthology series, will be titled Jane the Novela, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Each season will be based on a novel written by Jane Gloriana Villanueva, who develops a writing career throughout Jane the Virgin.
The first season will reportedly be set at a vineyard in Napa Valley, California – unlike Jane the Virgin, which is set in Miami, Florida – and it looks like it will include as much family drama as the original show.
Jane the Virgin writer Valentina Garza is attached to the new show as a writer and executive producer, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Jennie Snyder Urman, the parent series’s showrunner, is also set to executive produce.
Jane the Virgin‘s fifth and final season is scheduled to premiere on 27 March.
