Jane Seymour has it written into her contracts that she can keep her characters' clothes.
The 75-year-old star recalled how Live and Let Die director Guy Hamilton was unimpressed by her Solitaire costume and ultimately turned to her own real-life wardrobe for inspiration.
Recalling her first appearance on the set of the 1973 James Bond film, Jane told Vogue magazine the filmmaker asked: “What the hell do you look like? We liked you. You looked better at the party last night. Where’s your suitcase?
“They actually copied my own clothes for the Bond film!”
And after that movie, Jane had her contracts changed to include a fashion clause.
She said: “I then got in my contract that I could keep all the clothes."
And to this day, the Harry Wild actress still has items including boots she wore in Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman and the one-of-a-kind period pieces Karl Lagerfeld created for The Sun Also Rises.
She recalled of the latter: "He fitted me the day before his big fashion show."
Among her favourite old costumes are the 1940s Nolan Miller dresses Jane wore in Crossings.
She admitted: "I wear those a lot still."
Despite the contractual stipulation, Jane likes to be prepared and goes to set with a suitcase filled with her own clothes and has sometimes had to use them.
She said: “Ever since, every job I ever go to, I take with me what I think would fit the character...
“Wedding Crashers had a budget up the wazoo [but] they couldn’t find exactly the dress for the wedding.
“I had been given all these Escadas - all the runway samples.”
It is a good thing Jane has taken so many of her TV and movie outfits because she previously revealed she loves to "shop" from her own wardrobe.
She told Woman's World: “I like to shop in my own closet.
“I was going to toss all my clothes with big shoulder pads, but I ended up keeping them, because everything comes back. I always say not to throw anything away.
“I’ve recently been on the red carpet wearing things that I first wore 20 or 30 years ago, and they’re all back in style now.
"I look at what’s in style and see how I can put a look together with clothes I already have. It’s like my sport.”
