Jane Murphy: Hero NHS worker at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary dies after Covid-19 battle

A hero NHS worker at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary has died after falling ill with coronavirus.

Jane Murphy lost her life to Covid-19 at the age of 73 this week.

The clinical support worker, who was from Bonnyrigg, is reported to have been placed on leave around one month ago as her age placed her in the 'at risk' category.

According to the Daily Record she spent a number of years with the NHS, and working in the A&E department at the Royal Infirmary.

Musician Saxingh was among those to pay tribute to the "much-loved member of staff" at the Edinburgh hospital after hearing of her death yesterday (Thursday).

He posted a video of himself playing the saxophone on social media, adding the caption: "Dedicating this one to Jane Murphy (73) who sadly passed away this morning due to Covid-19 – she was a clinical support worker at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.

"She was an ace worker and a much-loved member of staff. She continued to work and refused to retire from the NHS, and she's been there as a mentor for nurses and doctors who are now consultants and senior charge nurses everywhere."

Colleague Shirley Boyd-Lennie commented: "I was out clapping for you Jane Murphy... You truly were an A&E legend and whoever is playing the bagpipes outside the RIE... I salute you. Fly high Ma Murphy."
