Jane McDonald's 'new lease of life' as she shares key weight loss tips

Cutting out crisps and drinking green smoothies are among the weight loss tips shared by singer and presenter Jane McDonald after recently wowing ITV bosses hosting the British Soap Awards. Jane was brought in as the face of the annual event in place of Philip Schofield, and has now been tipped as the "favourite" to replace him on Dancing On Ice.

The 60-year-old has previously spoken about how she has reshaped her eating habits to drop from a size 12 to 14 to an eight, discussing the go-to-foods that helped her weight loss journey. A fridge full of lean meat and chopped veg are among the ways in which Jane says she has given herself a "new lease of life", the Daily Record reports.

Jane says that she starts her day with a green smoothie every other morning, saying: "I blend up a mixture of raw greens, flax seeds, chia seeds, spinach, kale, mint and a banana. It really is lovely."

The presenter was one of the celebrities who appeared on ITV's Sugar Free Farm in 2016, successfully losing four stone on the programme. Contestants were given a sugar-free diet to follow in order to improve their overall health.

Speaking to Express.co.uk previously, Jane revealed: "I lost a stone and a half from taking part in the TV show Sugar Free Farm. I used to eat so much rubbish. I didn’t realise how much rubbish I used to eat. I’ve always loved a pie and I was very carbohydrate-led as I was always hungry."

"I ate far too much and all the wrong things. I didn’t realise that if you eat the wrong things, it doesn’t feed your body so you will want more. I like my life, and my schedule takes a lot of energy, but I was beginning to get quite tired and I was blaming it on age."

Back in 2015, the star revealed she had to cut out alcohol, cakes, biscuits and convenience food and the hardest thing for her was not having red wine. Jane completely cut down on wine, and only had a glass once a week.

She says the contents of her fridge are now filled with much healthier foods, adding "It's stuffed from top to bottom with lean meat and chopped veg in boxes of Tupperware - peppers, spinach, things like that. I've got a new lease of life – appearing on this programme is the best thing I've ever done."
