Jane McDonald in tearful first interview since fiancé Eddie Rothe's death

Jane McDonald made a return to Loose Women eight years after her run as a panelist and seven months after the tragic death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe.

It was the singer and presenter's first interview following Eddie's passing and she welled up in tears during the segment.

Eddie, who was a musician and the drummer in The Searchers, passed away from lung cancer in March this year at the age of 67.

Viewers were shown a heartbreaking montage of Eddie as Jane, 58, watched on.

After the montage, Jane shed tears and grabbed a tissue whilst apologising to the viewers, but she spoke emotionally about how she wanted to remember Ed.

Jane said: "I don't want to feel sad for the rest of my life, you know, because that wasn't Ed. Ed was golden.

"He was smiley. He was beautiful. And I've got to do the first interview and I couldn't do it with better people."

She went on: "It's been so hard. It has been such a tough 18 months for all of us."

On April 7, Jane announced Ed's death on social media: "It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Jane’s beloved long term partner, Ed, passed away on Friday 26th March.

"He had been battling lung cancer for the last few months. We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support during this very difficult time, especially the NHS staff and the wonderful team at The Wakefield Hospice.

"The funeral took place earlier today and we would please ask for your kindness in observing Jane’s privacy for her and Ed’s family at this sad time."
