Jane McDonald 'didn't realise' she'd dropped FOUR dress sizes after weight loss

TV star and cruise icon Jane McDonald has revealed how she slimmed down four dress sizes getting her figure to a slim size 8.

The former Loose Women star, who also hosted the British Soap Awards in place of Phillip Schofield, is known for her glamorous appearance including her curves.

In 2016, the star's weight had crept up as she revealed she "didn't realise" how much junk food she used to eat, as she now opts for a healthier diet but still allows herself a treat too.

The Channel 5 star embraces green smoothies, kale and spinach as well as tackling her love of sugar and red wine to keep her figure in check and make healthier food choices.

Speaking in an interview with Women's Own, Jane explained that whilst she tries to be healthier she doesn't deny herself a treat. She said: "Life’s too short not to have a scone or two, you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of pleasure.”

She added: “I know when to stop and I think that’s the secret. I have everything I want, but I don’t always finish it. I also have plenty of salad.

"I used to eat so much rubbish. I didn’t realise how much rubbish I used to eat."

Performer Jane blamed her busy work schedule and touring for giving her little time to consider a healthy diet. Speaking with the magazine in 2016, Jane revealed the secrets to maintaining the figure that she's known for today.

As well as her green smoothie, Jane has two balanced meals a day keeping a careful eye on sugar and one of her other guilty pleasures; red wine.

Taking part in the 2016 documentary Sugar Free Farm has also been instrumental in Jane's diet as she revealed she was shocked to see how much sugar was in the foods she consumed.

She shared: "What made me so angry was when I found out just how much-added sugar there is in pre-prepared food. It’s literally in everything. I'd been consuming it for years, without even knowing it.

"We had to cut out alcohol, cakes, biscuits, convenience food… everything. The hardest thing for me was missing red wine. Oh, I love my wine! But now I've completely cut down on it, and only have a glass once a week. That's a HUGE deal for me!"

Looking healthy and feeling fabulous is a huge part of Jane's career, including her TV work. This year she also took over as host of the British Soap Awards for ITV, which she described as "a dream come true".

She said: "I'm so excited to be this year's host for The British Soap Awards!!

"Everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.

"I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them - roll on the awards, I can’t wait!"
