Jane is an inspiration to others and refuses to let cancer battle get her down

A woman has maintained her incredible zest for life despite her ongoing battle with cancer.

Jane Burns’ world was turned upside down just before Christmas when she was diagnosed with endometrial (womb) cancer.

After undergoing a hysterectomy in April and several bouts of chemotherapy, Jane was then told the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

Radiotherapy sessions then followed but throughout her ordeal, Jane’s positive attitude has shone through.

Her sister Monica said: “She has truly been an inspiration to everyone around her.

“She lost her hair but has embraced wearing turbans and fancy headgear to match her outfits, all finished off with a lovely brooch.

“She has 17 in total. We call it her chemo collection.

“We have nine of a family – six sisters and three brothers and we get a text from her every day telling us what she is wearing.”

Monica decided a perfect pick-me-up for Jane would be to nominate her for our weekly Say it with Flowers competition.

And we surprised Jane with a beautiful bouquet at her home in Newarthill thanks to our friends at Pixie’s Petals in Newmains.

As well as her positive attitude to life, Monica also believes Jane’s great faith has also saw her through the darkest times.

She added: “She goes to St Teresa’s Church in Newarthill. She is a very active member of the church and reads at Mass every week.

“She was recently at an event celebrating the life of St Therese.

She didn’t think she would have been able to go so she was delighted to attend.

“Her faith has definitely got her through. Jane prays every day.

“She also loves flowers, except lillies, and I thought it would be a great boost for her to receive the flowers and to let her know we love her to bits.”
