Jane Fonda announces her cancer is in remission and says she feels 'so blessed'

Jane Fonda has announced that her cancer is now in remission and that she can discontinue her chemotherapy treatment.

The Hollywood star received the happy news ahead of her 85th birthday next week and described it as "the best birthday present ever," adding that she feels "so blessed".

"Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate.

"I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news," Jane wrote in a lengthy blog post on her website.

She went on to describe the gruelling effect treatment had on her.

"I’m especially happy because while my first 4 chemo treatments were rather easy for me, only a few days of being tired, the last chemo session was rough and lasted 2 weeks making it hard to accomplish much of anything."

The much-loved actress then used her announcement to shed light on the fight against climate change.

She wrote: "I did some lobbying and spoke twice at the Democracy Alliance all in an effort to stop Senator Joe Manchin’s side deal which climate activists call the Dirty Deal."

Jane said the deal "does great harm to bedrock environmental protections and curtails the public‘s ability to have input, basically throwing marginalized communities disproportionately burdened by fossil fuel pollution under the bus."

Jane announced she had been diagnosed with cancer in September after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

At the time, she told fans that she felt "lucky" as it was "very treatable".

She has previously been diagnosed with breast and skin cancer, blaming the latter on her past love of sunbathing.

The Barbarella actress recently opened up about how she knows she "isn't going to be around for much longer", but insisted she is not afraid of death.

"I’m not going to be around for much longer. When you get to be my age, you better be aware of the amount of time that is behind you, as opposed to in front of you.

"I mean, that’s just realistic," Jane said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Adding that she’s 'not afraid of going', the star said: "I'm ready. I’ve had a great life. Not that I want to go, but I’m aware that it’s going to be sooner rather than later."
