Jan Vertonghen's brutal Instagram message to Tottenham teammate Serge Aurier

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has poked fun at teammate Serge Aurier on social media, which was quickly noticed by supporters.

The Lilywhites are preparing for the Premier League's imminent return in just a few weeks time, where Jose Mourinho's side will pick-up their pursuit of a spot in the Champions League.

It has been a difficult time for everyone amid the coronavirus crisis but it seems spirits are still high in North London, as shown by Vertonghen's social media antics.

The Belgian defender tagged Aurier in a picture on Instagram that read: 'Tag a friend that would still miss', which was accompanied by an image of a goal spreading across the length of the entire pitch and up as high as the roof of a stadium.

Ironically though, as some Spurs fans quickly picked up upon, both Vertonghen and Aurier have both scored two goals this season, so perhaps he has unintentionally mocked himself.

Spurs will certainly hope spirits are kept high heading into the Premier League's restart and the in-jokes could spark a bit of friendly competition between the pair.

Should Aurier respond by scoring the goal that seals Champions League football for Spurs next season, he would certainly have the last laugh.
