Jan Vertonghen could make his first appearance for almost two months when Tottenham face Chelsea on Saturday.
The Belgium defender has not played since damaging a hamstring in Spurs’ 2-0 win at Huddersfield on September 29 but has made good progress and is being considered by Mauricio Pochettino for the derby at Wembley.
Vertonghen’s return would be a boost for Tottenham, who are still without his fellow centre-back Davinson Sanchez, who is also suffering from hamstring trouble and missed the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace before the international break because of it.
Pochettino must also consider whether to select Erik Lamela and Juan Foyth, as both returned to London only yesterday after they were selected by Argentina for two friendlies against Mexico.
Christian Eriksen is likely to feature after he played just 45 minutes of Denmark’s meeting with Ireland in midweek — a plan agreed in advance with coach Age Hareide.
