It is an unprecedented time for football and the Premier League.
Fixtures have been put on hold until at least April 30th amid the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus meaning that restrictions have been put on mass gatherings.
The decision to temporarily suspend the league was taken at the end of last week following the diagnosis of both Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Premier League have now announced that the June 1st limit to finish the campaign has been “extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season.”
This means that the season could extend beyond June 30th,
So, should that happen, which Tottenham players could be affected? Take a look below to find out.
Michel Vorm
The goalkeeper originally left the club last summer after seeing out his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, the injury to club captain Hugo Lloris earlier in the season led to the Dutchman re-signing for Spurs until the end of the season.
His contract is due to run until June 30th, when he will again be without a club, but a possible short term option could become available should Spurs need some cover in the closing weeks of the season.
Jan Vertonghen
The centre-back is also out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer after June 30th.
The extension of the season means that Spurs will have to work on a solution should they wish to play him after that date, should the fixtures be scheduled then.
Vertonghen has played 19 times in the Premier League this season and could be a big miss for Spurs should he not be allowed to play the closing games of the campaign.
