Jan Vertonghen an injury doubt for Tottenham vs Liverpool Champions League final

Tottenham could be without Jan Vertonghen for next month's Champions League final against Liverpool after he was seen leaving the Johan Cruyff Arena wearing a protective boot.

The Belgian international played the full game in the Dutch capital, and was involved in the celebrations when Lucas Moura struck in the 96th minute to send his side through to the Madrid showpiece on June 1.

The defender played the match wearing a face mask after sustaining a heavy blow to the head in the first leg in London, which caused damage to his nose.

Dutch television channel VTM NIEUWS captured the former Ajax star limping onto the Tottenham team bus with the aid of crutches.

How Liverpool and Tottenham wins affect England's Champions League places next season

He will almost definitely miss Spurs' final Premier League game of the season at home to Everton on Sunday, although the gap to the all-English showdown with Liverpool in Madrid does give him a chance of recovery in time.

Spurs forward Harry Kane says he's hopeful of being available for the final as he recovers from an ankle injury.

"Rehab is going well," he told BT Sport during Tottenham's celebrations on the pitch.

"I started straight line running this week and I have to start training even harder to prove myself to the gaffer."
