Jan Blachowicz: ‘I promise’ to knock out Jon Jones after UFC on ESPN+ 25 win

RIO RANCHO, N.M. – Jan Blachowicz is promising a knockout of Jon Jones if he’s able to get his hands on the UFC light heavyweight champion following his win over Corey Anderson at UFC on ESPN+ 25.

Blachowicz (26-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC) avenged a 2015 loss to Anderson (26-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC) in the most emphatic of ways on a headlining platform when he scored a brutal first-round knockout Saturday at Santa Ana Star Center.

Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC), who is coming off a controversial title defense over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 last week, was cageside for the fight. Jones and Blachowicz shared a back-and-forth moment in the immediate aftermath of the bout, and Blachowicz said there’s no doubt he deserves the opportunity.

“I believe I’m the next contender for the title shot, and I don’t want a different fight,” Blachowicz told MMA Junkie post-fight at UFC on ESPN+ 25. “Only title shot. I will wait. I have a lot of things to do, so I will not be boring, I can wait. … I do this all my life, and I wait for this so long. I am ready. I proved that I deserve the title shot, and I will do this, and I will take the belt to Poland.”

Not so fast?

Many have called for Jones to rematch Reyes. However, Blachowicz is obviously not among then. He gave “all respect” to Reyes but said he should be ahead in the queue.

If Blachowicz does indeed get the title shot, he said the result would be different from any of Jones’ previous bouts. “Bones” is unbeaten over a stretch of 15 consecutive championship fights, but Blachowicz said he’s got a trick up his sleeve.

“We already have something for Jon Jones,” Blachowicz said. “But it’s a secret, and we show this in the fight.”

Blachowicz would not divulge the exact tactics of what it would take to unseat arguably the greatest fighter in MMA history. He did, however, offer a spoiler of how it would end.

“I will (knock him out),” Blachowicz said. “I promise.”
