JAMMU: The Jammu Police on Sunday nabbed a man for issuing fake degrees and documents of various universities in Jammu's Ranbir Singh Pura area. Around 100 fake degrees and diplomas were recovered, police said.
The accused has been identified as Ravi Kumar of Jammu.
Police said, "A complaint was lodged at R S Pura police station by one Sunny Kumar of Nai Basti under the jurisdiction of the said police station, stating that a person was involved in preparing fake degrees and diplomas in the area."
“For this matter, a special team of RS Pura police under the supervision of sub divisional police officer (SDPO) R S Pura, Surinder Singh was constituted.”
“The team led by station house officer (SHO) Jai Pal Sharma raided the suspected location and caught the suspected person along with 100 fake degrees and diplomas.”
“An FIR under Sections 420/468/471/465 of IPC was registered and the accused was arrested due to swift action along with timely human intervention.”
Later, Ravi revealed that he fraudulently prepared fake documents, degrees of various universities and distributed them among the locals to earn money.
"He was issuing fake degrees, mark sheets of universities like Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhya Pith Varanasi; Chatrapti Shahuji Maharaj University Kanpur, UP; Himachal Pradesh University Board; Karnataka University; and CSJM University, Kanpur, UP, police said, adding that the accused was charging Rs 25,000 for diploma mark sheet and Rs 45,000 for degree.
They further said that there is an apprehension of involvement of interstate gang in the fraud.
Further investigation in the case was under way.
