JAMMU: Cracking down heavily on the trade of bovine smuggling in Jammu and Kashmir, the Ramban police foiled two bovine smuggling bids by seizing eight vehicles and rescuing 203 bovine animals on Sunday.

"The vehicles were subjected to thorough search, SP Ramban said, adding, "police team found 113 bovine animals loaded in these vehicles with utmost cruelty."

She said, "The animals were being tranported to valley without any valid permission of competent authority, hence police rescued a total of 113 bovine animals under the “Operation Kamdhenu”.

The drivers of the said vehicles were also arrested on the spot.

In this regard, several cases under Section 188 of IPC and 11 PCA Act were registered in Batote police station.

"In yet another incident, Ramban police intercepted four trucks (JK05 C-0939, JK02 AV-8887, JK18 A-1012 & JK02 A-1311), on way towards Srinagar and recovered at least 90 bovine animals loaded in the vehicles without any arrangements of food and water, the SP added.

"In this regard, several cases under section 188 of IPC and 11 PCA Act were registered in Ramban police station."

The SP further said that the district police will be working to curb menaces of all types in near future.
