Jammu and Kashmir: Woman, her child killed after LPG cylinder explodes in Poonch

POONCH: In a tragic incident on Thursday, a mother and her minor son were burnt alive while and three others sustained injuries when an LPG cylinder caught fire and exploded in a house in Poonch district.

"The incident occurred in Chandimarh village of the Surankote subdivision of Poonch district resulting in the death of two persons, injuries to five others while around a dozen livestock also perished in fire," police said.

Police said, "The fire incident took place at the house of one Shoket Hussain of Chandimarh in Poonch in which one Hamida Begum (40) along with her kid Aqib (4) were burnt alive."

Police team along with locals rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

"Three other family members, including the deceased woman’s husband and two children, narrowly escaped in the LPG cylinder explosion and fire," police added . Bodies of mother and her son were recovered from the debris of the house while the injured house owner and children were evacuated and shifted to the hospital.

Meanwhile around a dozen cattle, other domestic animals and household items also perished in the fire, police said.
