Jammu and Kashmir: Army provides state-of-art drying machines to women in Kishtwar

JAMMU: Continuing its people friendly effort to strengthen the bond between the local populace and the force, the Indian Army on Sunday in a first of its kind, the dual source 'Solar Drying Systems' for fruits, vegetables and agricultural produce were provided to women in remote area Kishtwar district in Jammu and and Kashmir.

Sharing more details in this regard, PRO (Defence) Lt Col Devender Anand informed that in a first of its kind, the dual source Solar Drying Systems for fruits, vegetables and agricultural produce have been provided by Indian Army to the Women of remote villages in Mughal Maidan area of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Ten solar dryers have been provided by Indian Army and training of the women has been conducted in collaboration with Chennai based 'Gratitude Farms', Col Anand said, adding, " each Solar Dryer system has a standby heating system through geyser which provides uninterrupted functioning of the drying system."

Further Col Anand said, "Indian Army formed a Self Help group of Poor Women and provided them with these Solar Dryers."

"The Self help group has been trained in operation of the system, drying method as well as marketing of the produce." PRO Defence Jammu said, "Women are happy and excited about the project and expressed their gratitude to the Army.

"Block Development officer Tasleem Wani who was also there extended the support of civil Administration to take it further successfully."

"The same will give the women self employment and this project is being seen as a boon to rural areas of remote Kishtwar which see large-scale growth of pure organic fruits and vegetables which are in high demand in other parts of the country," said Col Anand.

He added that people turned out in large numbers to witness inauguration of this project by Brigadier Pranab Misra, Rashtriya Rifles Sector Commander at Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar.
