Jammu and Kashmir: Army officer allegedly shoots self to death in Ramban

JAMMU: An Army officer has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday. According to police, late on Saturday night (at around 2230 hrs) the Police Post Khari received an information that one Army officer identified as Major Parvinder Singh, son of Rachpal Singh resident of Priyadarshini Vihar, New Delhi posted in Ramban (currently Company Commander Alpha Coy Mahubal of 23 RR) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with AK-47 service rifle at his residential quarter in Army Camp, Banihal.

Police said, "As the death of the deceased has occurred under mysterious circumstances, inquest proceedings U/S 174 CrPC vide DD no. 21 has been initiated at this P/P Khari to find out that what led the officer to take an extreme step."

"No suicide note or any other document was found from the spot," Police said.
