Troubled former NRL player Jamil Hopoate has faced a Sydney court for sentencing on assault charges after he was granted bail in a separate matter for allegedly supplying cocaine.
The 26-year-old was accompanied by his father and famous former Manly winger John as part of strict conditions imposed as part of his successful bail application.
The former Brisbane Broncos player was arrested in Port Macquarie in December after allegations of an assault.
On Thursday Hopoate was due to be sentenced at Central Local Court for three counts of common assault, two of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm, one charge of mid-range drink driving and driving on a suspended licence.
But after several past delays in sentencing, his lawyer said the matter was still not ready due to COVID-19 restrictions and his recent release from custody.
Magistrate Robert Williams was told the Director of Public Prosecutions was initially seeking a detention order regarding one of his bail conditions relating to the drugs charges, but this was not pressed and withdrawn.
Hopoate was on bail when he was allegedly involved in importing nearly half a tonne of cocaine worth an estimated street value of almost $155 million.
He is back in court on August 19 where he is due to be sentenced on his other outstanding matter.
