Jamien Sherwood’s high school jersey retired during Jets’ bye week

Jets rookie linebacker Jamien Sherwood had an eventful bye week.

Sherwood returned home to Jensen Beach, Florida, where his high school returned his No. 7 jersey.

“Honestly, this is probably the best night of my life,” Sherwood said, according to Treasure Coast Newspapers. “I never got a chance to go come to a football game since the day I graduated Jensen Beach High School so honestly for me to come back to a game for the first time and get my jersey retired, this compares to nothing.”

Sherwood has started three of the four games he’s played this season after the Jets drafted him in the fifth round. He’s tallied 12 tackles.

Sherwood said he’s loved those experiences so far, but having his jersey retired is something else entirely.

“Being drafted is great, it’s amazing, it’s a dream come true, but to get your jersey retired at someplace you gave your blood, sweat and tears to, cherish moments with friends and family, made new friends, played for great people, there’s so much more I could say. This night compares to nothing,” Sherwood added. “This is so amazing and I’m just blessed to be a part of it.”
