Jamie Walker reveals next Hearts goal target as he aims to break 60-year-old record

Jamie Walker has his sights set on breaking into the top 20 of Hearts all-time top goalscorers.

Walker reached the 50 mark with his header against Greenock Morton in their 1-1 Championship draw at Tynecastle.

At just 27, time is on Walker’s side with the 100-goal milestone not an unrealistic possibility if he stays fit and even more crucially, at the club.

But in the shorter term, the next number to hit is 81.

Inside right Jimmy Murray racked up that tally across two spells at Tynecastle between 1950 and 1961.

The Scotland international is 20th in the list of the club’s all-time top scorers, just behind John Colquhoun but a distance ahead of Walker as things stand.

However, with this season yet to finish and Walker likely to find the net again before it draws to a close, a couple of double figure seasons should get him close.

And the boyhood Jambo admits it’s something he’d love to achieve.

“I think if I score 30 more, I’ll be one of the all-time top scorers for Hearts so that’s something I’m looking to do,” he said in a sponsor’s feature video.

“Scoring 50 was very special and it’s something I’ll maybe look back on in a few years and actually appreciate what it means.

“Right now, I’m just looking to get 51, 52 and just keep going to see how many I can score.

“Maybe when I retire I’ll look back and see it was something special and something I should be proud of.”
