Jamie Vardy fires warning to Newcastle United ahead of crunch Friday night clash

Jamie Vardy has warned Newcastle United they will be facing a Leicester City side currently on top of their game.

The retired England striker is in a rich vein of form after Brendan Rodgers' arrival prompted a positive response from him in recent weeks.

Vardy has netted five goals in the last four matches with the Foxes winning four successive games to put themselves in with a shout of a Europa League place.

Looking ahead to Friday night's crunch game, Vardy said: "The confidence is really high but this is only the start. We put the work in on the training field and take that into the game.

"We’ve got another build-up now for the Newcastle game on Friday, where we’ll be putting all the work in and hopefully get another win.

"I feel like I’m in good form but it’s through hard work and there’s plenty more to come.

"There’s a lot more games left until the end of the season so hopefully there will be more goals."

Leicester are close to a complete sell out for the clash with United and Vardy knows their fans will be key to another big atmosphere.

He told their club website: "The support is always fantastic, they’re never quiet and they sing all the way through and we just want to show our appreciation for the amount of travelling they do and the support they give us."

The Foxes warmed up for Newcastle with a 4-1 win at Huddersfield.

Brendan Rodgers said after the game: "The idea is to finish as high as we can.

"You want to be in Europe if you can.

"We'll see if we can find a different way to get in there."
