Jamie Vardy Chelsea transfer truth revealed as Todd Boehly has Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plan

Jamie Vardy has all but rubbished Chelsea transfer rumours with what he has done to ease Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City's worries.

In a week which continues to see star players James Maddison and Wesley Fofana linked to Newcastle and Chelsea respectively, the Foxes capped off a worrying week with a 2-2 draw at home to Brentford in the opening 2022/23 Premier League game at the weekend. Rodgers spoke about the pair before the game as he continued to 'maintain the not for sale stance' but Fofana especially is looking the more likely of the duo to make a late exit as Chelsea prepares a world-record third bid, football.london understands.

The 21-year-old leaving would leave the East Midlands little time to secure a suitable and just as good replacement for the Frenchman but their worries could have been compounded if star striker Jamie Vardy were to make the shock decision to leave too. With one year remaining on his current deal, there were mummers that the Blues could look into conducting a last-minute transfer for the Englishmen if other targets were not to have arrived before the September deadline.

"I’ve heard from someone that Jamie Vardy might be on Chelsea’s list as a last-minute backup striker," Give Me Sport's Dean Jones told the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube Channel. "It wasn’t the greatest source in the world, but I was like... that’s a weird one to just make up. That’s got to have some sort of substance."

Fast forward a few weeks and the substance seemingly was that Vardy's camp may have leaked these rumours to push Leicester into offering a new contract and that is exactly what has transpired in this situation.

According to The Athletic, the 35-year-old is in talks over a new one-year extension to keep his love affair with the Foxes going until 2023-24 at the very latest.

This won't be seen as a massive blow to Chelsea as this was more of a panic buy type option. New owner Todd Boehly is edging closer to be given the 'green light' to submit an official proposal for former Premier League icon and Golden Boot winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
