Jamie Vardy chasing down Arsenal legend’s record after reaching goalscoring milestone

Jamie Vardy has joined Arsenal legend Ian Wright in an exclusive Premier League club after finding the net for Leicester City against Crystal Palace.

In the 37 th minute of the contest at Selhurst Park, Vardy was played through by Harvey Barnes and slotted a right footed effort beyond Vicente Guaita, giving the Foxes a 2-0 lead going into the half-time break.

The Foxes eventually let that lead slip as the game ended 2-2.

Leicester headed into the game on a bad run of form, losing two of their previous three league games in addition to a nightmare 1-0 loss at the hands of Polish outfit Legia Warsaw in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

However, on an individual level, Vardy has been looking sharp so far this season.

The strike was his sixth in just seven games in the league, with the veteran striker looking to be back to his best after scoring 15 times last season, a slight dip by his impressive standards.

And, after Vardy netted Leicester’s second of the day, an interesting stat has come to light.

The 34-year-old – who looks as though he could play on for a few more seasons yet – has now become only the second player in Premier League history to have scored 90+ goals in the competition after the age of 30.

Wright, who like Vardy was a late bloomer, is the only other to have registered the same output after that age.

But the Arsenal legend’s tally of 93 goals after turning 30 will be surpassed by Vardy sooner rather than later, as the Leicester star is showing no signs that he plans on enjoying an early retirement.

Now that he is no longer involved in the England set-up, Vardy will have a week off to rest and recover because of the latest international break, before going again in the league against Manchester United on Oct 16.
