Phillips can set sights on following Leeds legends
Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips can now set his sights on replicating some of the club’s greats, following his first call-up to the England squad.
Phillips was an unused substitute in England’s narrow 1-0 win over Iceland on Saturday evening, but could play against Denmark in a few days.
As Nestor Watach writes , the 24-year-old could become the latest Leeds academy graduate to represent their country.
The last six are Lewis Cook, who made his debut for England in 2018, Danny Rose, who has a number of caps for the Three Lions - likewise, Fabian Delph, Scott Carson, Aaron Lennon and James Milner.
Shackleton sets sights on Liverpool after friendly win
After beating Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday afternoon, Leeds’ Jamie Shackleton has claimed his side are “fully prepared” for next week’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.
It will be Leeds’ first top-flight match in 16 years and it is against last season’s league champions.
However, Shackleton has insisted Marcelo Bielsa’s men are fully prepared for next weekend’s huge test.
Shackleton said: “Yeah, we’re fully prepared. It’s just around the corner. Everyone’s up for the challenge. We know it’s going to be exactly that - a challenge.
"Up against the champions, it’s as challenging as it gets, but we’re more than ready.”
