Jamie Reuben breaks silence on QPR exit amid fresh Newcastle United takeover talk

Jamie Reuben has broken his silence after stepping down as a director of Queens Park Rangers.

The 33-year-old financier was expected to take up a role on the board at Newcastle United as part of the Middle East consortium involving Amanda Staveley and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

However, the group walked away from the deal after the Premier League did not approve or reject their approach during the owner’s and director’s test.

Reuben would have had to leave his role at QPR to be involved at Newcastle in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

His departure from the Championship outfit came to light on Friday and has now been officially confirmed.

"Jamie Reuben has stepped down from the QPR Board," said the club in a statement.

QPR chairman Amit Bhatia added: “Jamie has been a fantastic addition to the QPR Board over the past two years.

“He has helped us tremendously in a number of different areas and I speak on behalf of my fellow shareholders when I thank him whole-heartedly for his efforts while he was with us.”

Reuben, who joined the QPR board in October 2018, said: “It has been pleasure to be a part of the QPR family for these past years, with special thanks to Amit Bhatia, Tony Fernandes, Ruben Gnanalingam and the other board members.

“I will always remain a supporter of QPR and wish them and the club every success for the future.”

Reuben also commented about his exit on Twitter, posting: "Thank you to everyone @QPR especially @Amit_Bhatia99 and the amazing fans - will always be a supporter and wish the club well going forward- starting with 3 points today please #cmonyouRs"
