Jamie Redknapp says Man City need a miracle to beat Liverpool FC to Premier League title

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester City require a miracle if they are to win a third Premier League title in a row.

With Liverpool in action in the Club World Cup in Qatar, City had the opportunity to close the gap upon the Reds when they played host to Leicester City on Saturday.

The Foxes, sat second, took the lead through Jamie Vardy but Riyad Mahrez fired home an equaliser against his former side, before goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus secured all three points.

As a result, City now sit a single point behind Leicester and 11 behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand, heading into the second half of the season.

While City will continue to chase down the Reds, they will know all too well that no side in Premier League history has overturned such a significant margin to win the title.

As a result, Redknapp believes that it would require a miracle for anyone but Liverpool to win the title but added that if any side can do it, then it's City with the best chance.

"If there were to be a miracle and Liverpool were to lose the title, I think it would only come from Man City. They showed today the quality that they have got, they were far and away the best side," he told Sky Sports.

"Points wise, it would have probably been not so good if Leicester had of won because they would have narrowed the gap and Boxing Day would have become so much more important.

"But I still think that this City side, they’re winners and they know what to do. They want the title, they want to win it three times on the bounce, but as I’ve said before, it’s a miracle of Liverpool don’t win it."
