Jamie Redknapp questions Eddie Nketiah's Leeds loan as Scott Parker issues ultimate compliment

Here is your Leeds United digest for Saturday, June 27.

Jamie Redknapp questions Nketiah loan

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he is struggling to understand why Eddie Nketiah struggled to have such a significant impact during his time on loan with Leeds.

The Arsenal forward, who scored in the Gunners' 2-0 victory against Southampton on Thursday, joined Leeds on loan last summer and was poised to stay for the duration of the 2019/20 campaign.

But a lack of game time, which was largely down to head coach Marcelo Bielsa's desire to use Patrick Bamford as his first-choice striker, meant Nketiah returned to Arsenal in early-January, as he made just one league start for the Whites.

And following his strong performances since returning to the Emirates Stadium, which has seen him score four goals in 10 matches in all competitions, Redknapp has admitted that he is surprised he had such little impact in West Yorkshire.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: "Incredible, it really is. It makes you wonder why it didn't work out for him at Leeds. What I like most about that interview is he said 'I like to be a nuisance.'"

Whites praised by Parker

Ahead of this afternoon's crunch clash at the top of the Championship between Leeds and Fulham, Cottagers manager Scott Parker has paid great credit to Bielsa's side, describing them as the "best team in the division."

The two sides will go toe-to-toe in a crucial encounter at Elland Road this afternoon, with the result certain to go a long way in deciding the promotion shake-up.

A win for Leeds would see them move 10 points clear of the Cottagers, whilst victory for the visitors would see the gap reduced to four points.

And ahead of the game, Fulham chief Parker has been signing the praises of the Whites, highlighting just how tough a game it will be for his players.

"It is a tough match, yes, for sure," Parker said during his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to West Yorkshire. "The first two fixtures that we have come back to [Brentford and Leeds] were always going to be tough.

"They [Leeds] are the best team in this division. They have been top of the table for the most part of the season. It is in their hands, really.

"At some point this season there was a 13, 15-point gap between us and Leeds, which shows that we have done extremely well to stay in touch at times. I think we are going to Elland Road at the weekend seven points behind them, so if we can go there and get a result all of a sudden it will be four points. That is a big ask."

Championship salary cap talks stall

The details about a proposed future salary cap across all three EFL divisions have been revealed.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, proposals have been sent to clubs in League One and League Two, but Championship clubs have yet to receive any information.

It is claimed that discussions were underway for Championship clubs to implement a salary cap, but the talks stalled after a price of around £18m was set.
