Jamie Redknapp opens up on private conversation with Harry Kane after England vs Croatia

Jamie Redknapp has opened up on the conversation he had with Harry Kane after England kicked-off their Euro 2020 charge with a 1-0 victory over Croatia.

Having exceeded all expectations to reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 - where Kane won the Golden Boot - this is a summer that comes with an even greater proposition of success.

Kane, who is being linked with a move away from Tottenham during the upcoming transfer window, didn't have a telling impact on the game at Wembley.

However, in such a crucial Group D opener, the only thing that mattered for Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions was claiming three points at the national stadium.

Due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, around 22,000 supporters were allowed to watch the action unfold.

And that Euro 2020 boost was the topic of conversation when former Tottenham man Redknapp bumped into the England captain post-match.

Speaking on the official England podcast, Redknapp said: "When it comes together and it's right, like it did in 1996 and at previous tournaments, there's nothing better than when the England fans get behind their team.

"They felt it yesterday. I had a chat with Harry Kane briefly after and he said; 'It's so good to have the fans in there'. Albeit only 22,000, you could feel it.

"Because of the acoustics of the stadium they really enjoyed the whole atmosphere and I think the players thrived off it."

Going head-to-head with the side who beat them in Russia three years ago, before going on to lose against France in the World Cup final, England were 1-0 winners beneath the famous arch, courtesy of a goal from Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.
