Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes teenage sensation Bukayo Saka has been Arsenal's star player so far this season, but has warned that his team-mates have let him down at times.
Redknapp made the admission ahead of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday evening, which left them to reflect on a seventh defeat in their last 10 Premier League outings.
Nicolas Pepe cancelled out Rob Holding's own-goal with a penalty before Everton restored their advantage just before half time thanks to a powerful header from centre-back Yerry Mina.
Despite giving it everything they had got in the second half, it was not enough, with creativity proving an issue in the final third once again.
Though the Premier League campaign is now 14 games old, the Gunners have scored just 12 times this season, clearly pointing out that they have a problem to create chances and put them away.
However, despite the likes of Pepe, Willian, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who missed the trip to Merseyside with a muscle problem, and Alexandre Lacazette misfiring so far this season, Redknapp believes a lot of praise should be sent in Saka's direction, with the former England international suggesting that his under-performing Arsenal team-mates have put the pressure on his young shoulders.
Redknapp told Sky Sports: “He’s been their shining light, but he’s 19-years of age. That’s putting so much pressure on a young man.
"He plays with no fear, he makes things happen - in midweek when he makes the goal for [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang. But you need the experienced players to help, that’s been the major problem for Arsenal.
"When you’re in a position like Arsenal are, the fans want to see the young players, the homegrown players, given an opportunity and Saka’s the one where you think something might happen when he gets the ball.
"It’s the others that have let him down.”
Though Saka has impressed at times this season, his statistics, however, do not make the best viewing, with the youngster having scored just one goal and claimed two assists in 17 appearances this term.
However, in fairness to the England international, he has not been helped by Arsenal's troubles in front of goals, with no shortage of opportunities being wasted.
