Jamie Redknapp makes Harry Kane prediction that Tottenham fans will love but on one condition

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane can successfully beat Alan Shearer's record of being the highest goalscorer in Premier League history.

That is according to former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp, who made the admission after Kane helped Spurs record a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

After Carlos Vinicius had netted his very first Premier League goal, Kane sealed the win with a cooly-dispatched penalty during the second half, easing some of the pressure on the shoulders of head coach Jose Mourinho.

Kane's strike took his tally of goals for the season to 27 in all competitions, 17 of which have come in the Premier League, meaning he is now level with Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah at the top of this season's standings.

As well as notching his 27th goal of the campaign, Kane has also racked up a very impressive 16 assists in all competitions, with 13 of those coming in the league, once again highlighting just how good an all-round striker he is.

The former Leicester City loanee, who will be looking to help England make the ideal start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign when they lock horns with San Marino on Thursday evening, has now scored 160 Premier League goals in his career, meaning he is now exactly 100 behind Shearer and his record of 260.

And for Sky Sports pundit Redknapp, Kane has the ability to smash that tally and write his name in the Premier League's history books.

"As long as he stays in this country, yes," Redknapp told Sky Sports when asked if Kane could successfully catch Shearer's long-standing record and overtake him. "He has got to score 25 goals a season for the next four seasons - of course he can do that.

"He is 27 years of age, he has got everything going for him and he will get goals, the fella just can't help it.

"He was born to score.

"He gets in the right areas. Of course, he is playing slightly deeper, but he is still getting his goals and having goal involvements as well.

"He will break that Alan Shearer record, make no mistake about it. It is just a matter of time."

Whether Kane will remain at Tottenham to smash that record remains to be seen.

Following Thursday evening's 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Europa League, reports have emerged claiming that the England ace will consider leaving the club to pursue his ambitions of adding silverware to his name.

But whether he does stay in north London or join one of the likes of Manchester City or Manchester United, Kane, as Redknapp says, has the ability to smash that record, as you would most certainly back him to score around 25 goals every season when at his best.

Although he only has 17 to his name in the league so far this term, you would still back him to be around the 25-mark come the end of the campaign if he continues to do what he has done right throughout the campaign.
