Former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp has spoke of the importance that Tottenham keep hold of Christian Eriksen beyond the summer.
The Danish international came on as a second half substitute with his team trailing by a goal to nil against newly promoted Aston Villa on Saturday evening. Tottenham went onto win the game 3-1 thanks to a debut goal from Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from striker Harry Kane.
Eriksen's future at Spurs was, and still is in doubt after the player spoke of his desire for a new challenge. Interest from both Real Madrid and Manchester United failed to materialise.
Despite the Premier League transfer window now being closed, Eriksen still could make a move to Europe where the window still has almost three weeks to run.
However, Redknapp claims that his influence on the latest game shows that he is still an important player for Mauricio Pochettino.
"Until Eriksen came onto the field, they had no chance of winning that game," he said during Sky Sports coverage of the game. "When he came on the tempo and the pace of the game changed. Every time a Spurs' player got the ball, they looked to him. He changed the whole game. It was more to do with him.
"He showed his importance to that team today. Players like him are few and far between. I think they have just got to keep him. If he wants more money he deserves it.
"I really hope Eriksen doesn't leave the Premier League and Tottenham. When Eriksen plays, it's like the game stands still. They wouldn't have won if he hadn't come on."
