Jamie Redknapp denies he's Tree on The Masked Singer but vows to work out who is

Jamie Redknapp appeared pretty clueless about The Masked Singer, as he responded to accusations he was the Tree on the new ITV series.

The show, which launched in the UK this month following the success of the US version, sees mystery celebrities take on aliases and disguises.

They must then perform, with the judges and viewers tasked with working out who they are based on their voices and some clues.

Viewers are convinced they've rumbled a number of the secret identities, with only three stars exposed so far.

One name thrown into the mix after the character Tree performed was footballer Jamie Redknapp.

Viewers were convinced he or Peter Crouch could be Tree, believing it to be a footballer.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, Jamie finally addressed the claims following Crouch's own denial.

Jamie confessed he had no idea what the show even was, before "promising" he was not taking part.

He even vowed to help GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard work out who the real Tree was.

Susanna said: "There is a lot of speculation Jamie, whether you might be taking part in another TV show at the moment, The Masked Singer."

Ben outright asked: "Are you the Tree?"

Jamie initially teased this was the case confessing: "I have got a lovely voice," with Susanna joking he looked like the costume.

It's then that he said he was "more of a rapper" before denying he was the mystery sportsman under the mask.

He told them: "Can I say if that's me or not? No, it's not me. I didn't even know what it was. I was getting messages like, 'are you a tree?'."

Jamie added: "No I'm not the Tree unfortunately. No I promise.

"Is it a footballer they've said? Okay, I'll try and find out for you but it's not me, that's all I can say."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
