Jamie Redknapp blasts Tottenham following draw with Norwich City

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s defending “a complete mess” after seeing them concede a comical own goal against Norwich City.

Spurs missed out on the chance of moving into the top four as they drew 2-2 with the Canaries, with a Harry Kane penalty rescuing a point after the visitors came from behind twice at Carrow Road.

Christian Eriksen made it 1-1 with a superb free-kick after Mario Vrancic’s opener, only for a Serge Aurier own goal to make it 2-1 to the hosts before Kane converted from the spot after being brought down.

It proved to be an afternoon to forget for Spurs’ defence, who shouldered a lot of the blame for the opener conceded in the first half.

Jose Mourinho: Harry Kane is fantastic

And former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp was left less than impressed again after seeing Jose Mourinho’s side fall behind once again in comical fashion after the break.

“From Spurs’ point of view, it’s so poor,” Redknapp said.

“The defending from players that are normally so accustomed to defending properly, it’s just a complete mess.

“Even as the ball is played to Aurier, he can’t quite work his feet out, he’s trying to kick it away, and that just sums up Tottenham’s defending.

“I think you sometimes have to say it’s a great piece of play because it opens up the defence.

“Then once you start free-wheeling as a defence, everyone then gets out of position, and it’s shocking really what happens.”
