Todd Boehly's decision to install Frank Lampard as caretaker manager until the end of the season has divided opinion. The 44-year-old looks set to return to the dugout ahead of Chelsea's clash with Wolves at the weekend, while further discussions regarding a permanent successor to Graham Potter continue behind the scenes.
football.london understands that the Blues have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Lampard as interim head coach until end of season. Chelsea have been heavily linked to both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique recently but, with the club yet to make a decision, the former Everton boss has been eyed as a short-term fix.
After Lampard was spotted in the crowd watching Chelsea lock horns with Liverpool, Jamie Redknapp claimed that appointing the former England international is a 'no-brainer'. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "I was at the game last night and I saw him in the crowd and he looked like a guy that hadn’t just gone there for a few drinks.

"He watched it in a very studious way and I started to think maybe they [Chelsea] might like at Frank as an option because there’s not many other managers right now. There’s a few managers they’re talking about. Obviously Nagelsmann’s had a mention but he looks like he wants some time away.
"This might make sense for the owners just to have a bit of breathing space and give Frank the opportunity to get back in the game. He’s got unfinished business at Chelsea, he loves the club, nobody cares about that club or knows it better than he does.
"I think this is a complete no brainer if Chelsea were to go for him and he’d take the job. I think it would be brilliant for him. Obviously the players haven’t had good results, or many goals but you can see that there are real signs at that club and they’ve got a Champions League game to come at Real Madrid.
"People will say it's impossible. But Roberto Di Matteo did it, he won it as an interim manager. Stranger things have happened in football."
Despite the buzz around Lampard's return, Simon Jordan believes that the 44-year-old would make the west London outfit an 'even bigger laughing stock'. Speaking talkSPORT, as quoted by the Daily Star, he said: "It would make Chelsea a laughing stock. At Everton, he was an abject failure. In certain quarters, Chelsea are a laughing stock.
"Why would they want to compound that and make themselves an even bigger laughing stock by bringing Frank Lampard in? Sorry, Frank’s a nice fella but that's irrelevant. Putting something in the dugout because it wins you some kind of popularity contest.
"And, why would Frank want to do it? It’s diminishing of him as if he’d be doing everyone a favour by turning up and getting a gig."
