Poppy Oliver, the eldest daughter of chef Jamie Oliver, has announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Ben Newman.
The 24-year-old’s mother, Jools Oliver, shared the news on Wednesday via Instagram, posting a photograph of Newman proposing on a beach.
Jools, whose real name is Juliette, wrote: “Our first baby Poppy Honey is getting married. We are so excited, proud and happy. Ben we all adore you.”
She revealed that the couple’s romance blossomed at university, where they were next-door neighbours.
Recalling their early days, Jools wrote: “Little did I know as we moved Pop into her second house at university, whilst I was sweating over your shoe rack flat pack, you seemed very distracted with the boy who had just moved in next door.
“Five years later you had met your soul mate. So excited for the next chapter.”
Further posts on Jools’ Instagram included additional photos of the happy couple and a video of the Oliver family celebrating with balloons in their kitchen.
There was also a close-up of Poppy, whose full name is Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver, showcasing her engagement ring.
Oliver’s mother also commented on the video, stating: “Love this so much, it was such wonderful news, made me cry. Love them both.”
Jamie and Jools Oliver have been married for 26 years and are also parents to daughters Daisy Boo Pamela, 23, Petal Blossom Rainbow, 17, Buddy Bear Maurice, 15, and River Rocket, 10.
Oliver first rose to prominence with the BBC Two series The Naked Chef in 1999, later establishing a restaurant group that entered administration in 2019, and has authored more than 30 books.
Poppy was born in 2003, three years after her parents were married, and went to Channing School in Highgate before studying English at the University of Leeds.
When she graduated in 2023, her mother posted on Instagram, saying that the family had “never felt so proud”.
Poppy had struggled with reading as a young child, but went on to develop a “complete obsession with books, reading and writing”, her mother wrote.
After graduating in 2023, Poppy took a gap year in Australia, where she worked as a waitress in Sydney.
Since late 2024, she has been an editorial and PR intern at The Jamie Oliver Group, according to her LinkedIn.
