Jamie Oliver's plans for new greenhouse in grounds of his £6 million Essex mansion

Jamie Oliver has applied for permission to build a new Greenhouse in the grounds of his new country pad so he can grow his own food.

The celeb cook wants to put it in the walled garden of his new £6million mansion, in Essex.

Plans lodged with Braintree District Council shows Jamie wants to make a white timber-framed greenhouse, with a wood burning stove in the corner.

The father-of-five bought the mansion on the 70-acre estate at the start of 2019.

He had building work done on the house before he and his family moved in, including the restoration of many original features.

It boasts 12 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a large games room, great hall, dining room, two drawing rooms and a wine storage area.

Original features include a well on the ground floor, a priest hole on the first floor and a two-storey red-brick Tudor gazebo in the gardens, which is named The Prayer House.

The property also comes with an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and fishing lakes.

The plans also reveal changes to the front of the house - Jamie and Jools want to install an oak, double-boarded door with iron nails as their front entrance.

Jane Gleeson, Jamie's agent, said that the chef and businessman wanted to spruce up the door so it could "again function as the principal entrance to the house."

If the plans go ahead, it would be good news for Jamie who was hit by business troubles last year after being forced to close 22 of his 25 Jamie's Italian restaurants.

Still, it seems he's moved on from the blow, telling PEOPLE earlier this year: "I'm really good. Better than I've been in a long, long time."
