Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant chain collapsed 'owing nearly £83 million'

The Jamie Oliver Italian restaurant chain collapsed with a reported debt of nearly £83 million.

The chain belonging to the iconic British chef, 45, is said to have also owed money to 288 companies when it collapsed.

According to The Sun, Jamie's Italian even owed £90 to window cleaners, £2,461 to a lightbulb company, and a £26 brown paper bag company.

A manager at Manchester Window Cleaner told the paper: "On the day we were there it was obvious something was going on.

"But they let us clean the windows when they knew it was shutting the next day."

He even added: "I don’t wish any harm on Jamie but there seemed a lack of mourning on his part."

The manager added that he wished Jamie Oliver had shown more contrition and apologised before making a TV comeback shortly after.

Meanwhile, Barden Facilities Management has also criticised Oliver for having to pick up the costs of the debts.

The company boss Stuart Barden said to the paper: "Seeing him on TV moaning about what a hard time he’s had makes me furious, when I’m picking up the tab."

Similar sentiments were expressed from L.A. Husbands Ltd, for which Jamie is reported to owe £3,800.

Oliver has since launched a new overseas restaurant chain.

The chef celebrated his 45th birthday last month and his wife Jools Oliver paid tribute to him on social media.

She wrote: "Happy birthday big legend number 1️ my best friend xxx.

"Thank you for always making our family so very happy no matter where we are or what the situation is, you make sure each one of us is looked after and feeling loved.

"So happy we all get to spend your birthday together xxx."

In Jamie's accompanying selfie, Jools was shown throwing her head back and laughing while her husband took the snapshot.

The couple  - who have been married since the year 2000 - raise kids Poppy Honey, 18, Daisy Boo, 17, Petal Blossom, 11, Buddy Bear, nine, and River, three.

Mirror Online has approached representatives of Jamie Oliver for comment.
