Jamie Oliver's former pub converted into an idyllic countryside cottage on the market for £1million

A historic pub once owned by Jamie Oliver has gone up for sale for £1.075 million after being converted into a stunning four-bed home. The renowned celebrity chef bought the Essex gastropub, then called The Cock, back in 2006 under his charity Fifteen Foundation.

Some may recognise the village tavern in Braintree after it featured on the reality TV show Jamie's Chef, which aired in 2007 and saw Jamie train disadvantaged youths to become chefs and compete for their own restaurant.

After winning the series, Jamie gifted the pub to school dropout Aaron Craze, 28, who successfully run it until business reportedly slumped, and it closed down in 2008.

The Cock Inn was first listed as a public house in the 1800s and also featured in primetime BBC series Lovejoy in the 90s. In 2013, the 400-year-old property was converted into an idyllic cottage and renamed Lime Tree Cottage.

Found in the village of Beazley End, the period home sits among trees and fields and boasts a large driveway, double garage and south-facing garden. Inside, the house spans approximately 3,460 square foot of living space and combines modern interior with traditional wood features.

On the ground floor there is an entrance hall and four reception rooms currently being used as a lounge, sitting room, dining room and a kitchen breakfast room, as well as a spacious utility room, garden room, cloakroom, study and a cellar on the level below.

Upstairs a corridor leads to four bedrooms and a family bathroom, fitted with a luxury white suite. The main bedroom has its own lavish dressing room and an en suite bathroom.

Many of the rooms include original features such as exposed brickwork, timbers and wood flooring. Outside the garden spans the width of the house with a paved terrace extending out from the kitchen.

Karl Manning, head of residential sales at Savills who have listed the property, said: “Lime Tree Cottage is an absolutely gorgeous house which is beautifully presented in a peaceful, semi-rural setting.

"Thought to be more than 400 years old, the property has been thoughtfully converted from its former use as a public house – sympathetically combining contemporary finishes and stylish new additions such as exposed chrome pipework and solid oak doors with a wealth of period features to give it a traditional feel and plenty of character.”
