Jamie Oliver returns to social media after restaurant chain collapse - but his post is bizarre

It's been a week since Jamie Oliver's restaurant businesses went into administration, and the celebrity chef has returned to social media after a digital silence.

While many wondered whether he'd shed more light on the situation, which cost 1,000 jobs, it isn't what he posted.

It was revealed that the 44-year-old emailed all staff moments before the collapse, CornwallLive reports.

In it, he said: "I’m absolutely devastated that we have had no choice but to put our much-loved UK restaurants into administration, which means the fate of Jamie’s Italian UK, Fifteen London and Barbecoa is now in the hands of an administrator, who will be responsible for the operations of these restaurants and their future.

"I appreciate how difficult this news is for everyone affected and I want to assure you that I have explored every possible avenue available and exhausted all options over the past months to try and save this business. I have personally invested everything I could to try and turn things around."

Among the businesses which closed last week were the Jamie’s Italian chain, Barbecoa steak house and the original Fifteen in London.

It comes after the restaurants ran up debts, which Jamie Oliver may be called on to pay off, and after a dozen branches of Jamies Italian were closed in 2017.

After remaining quiet on social media for nearly a week, Oliver has returned to Instagram.

But his post doesn't refer to the recent news.

Instead, the father-of-five posted a picture of asparagus and captioned it with four love hearts.

In an interview, Gordon Ramsay revealed that he spent time with Oliver last summer in Cornwall, shortly after he had to pay out £13million to save some of his restuarants.

He said: "We spent time together last year. Jools and Tana have always had a lovely connection. Jamie rented a house next door to us in Cornwall, we had a barbecue together and again we were drinking and talking at midnight. But to see that vulnerability in his eyes at 42…"
