Jamie Oliver admits 872-calorie cauliflower cheese pizza pie is 'wrong, but right'

Admittedly, this deep-pan cauliflower cheese pizza pie looks delicious. “Wrong, but right,” describes Jamie Oliver.

But viewers of the chef’s Meat-Free Meals show have been shocked by the recipe’s calorific content.

Jamie’s cauli-cheese pizza contains a whopping 872 calories per serving.

Each slice has a massive 79% of the recommended daily intake of saturated fat.

Jamie’s recipe is available in his new Veg book – aimed at encouraging the nation to eat less meat – and contains cheddar cheese, butter, oil and bread flour.

“It’s two of the best things in my life,” says Jamie. “Cauliflower cheese from the Sunday roast and a deep-pan pizza.

“I don’t know if I want to sleep on it or eat it.”

A serving has 28.4g of fat – by comparison, a portion of Turkey Twizzlers, from Jamie’s nemesis, Bernard Matthews, contained just 21g of fat.

One viewer raged: “872 calories per serving? Jeez!!” Another scoffed: “Why are all your recipes carbs, carbs and more carbs as a substitute for meat – it’s not healthy, just filling.”

While many Jamie fans salivated over the carby feast, and one described it as “amazing”, another remarked it “has as many calories as a meat feast pizza”.

Jamie suggests serving it with a side salad.
