Jamie Murphy's stellar Hibs attitude shines through as winger beams after overcoming injury hell

Jamie Murphy is buzzing to be back starting regular games for Hibs after an injury-ravaged couple of seasons.

Jack Ross moved to sign Murphy from Rangers a year ago but Hibs fans haven't seen the best of him on a consistent basis.

He's struggled to keep himself fit and managed just 13 league starts in the whole of last season.

His recurring hamstring problem seems to be a thing of the past now though as he has played a key role in four of Hibs five competitive games so far - even if Ross continues to manage his fitness carefully.

He scored against Santa Coloma in Andorra and has started both of their Premiership games so far as they maintain a 100% record.

Murphy said, via the Edinburgh Evening News: "I've been working a lot with the physios and fitness coaches to keep on top of things.

"In the past couple of years my body has failed me a bit but we've started on the right foot this year and hopefully it stays that way.

"There's always something new, anything I can do to keep myself as fit as I possibly can.

"Game fitness is a big thing. I've played two 60 minutes and a 70 and I'm working towards a full 90 now."

The 31-year-old needs minutes to build his fitness back up and there will be plenty of them to come - especially if Hibs can beat Rijeka on Thursday and set up a Europa Conference League playoff.

Thursday's trip to Croatia will see them play their sixth game in 21 days but Murphy is used to a demanding schedule and wouldn't have it any other way.

He went on: "I prefer it that way. I spent a lot of time down in England where you're playing Saturday and Wednesday nearly every week and when I was at Rangers we were in Europe as well.

"The more games the merrier for me."
