Jamie Murphy details Rangers comeback as he admits journey has been long and hard

Rangers winger Jamie Murphy admits making his comeback after 14 months out injured meant the world to him.

The boyhood Rangers fan suffered a terrible ACL injury last August that ended his season and he's had to deal with numerous setbacks on his road back.

But the former Brighton star finally made his first appearance of the season in the 5-0 win over Hamilton when he replaced Steven Davis in the second half.

Steven Gerrard insisted it was nothing to do with sentiment and that Murphy deserved his role in the squad.

He came close to grabbing a goal only to be flagged offside and admitted it had been a long and difficult road for him to get back to first team football.

He told RangersTV: "It meant a lot. It’s been a hard road back, there’s been a few setbacks so it’s good to finally get back out in front of the fans.

|It’s hard. Every day is hard, you go in and work your best. It’s been slow coming back from this injury so I’ve probably had to work extra hard. Yeah, every day I’m in there trying to get the opportunity.

"The boys played great as they have done over the past couple of weeks. They made it easy for me coming on when we’re already winning and getting a feel for the game.

"I thought I had scored the one that hit the post but I was obviously offside although I’ve not seen it yet. I’m always wanting to be in there scoring goals and setting up goals.

"Just to establish myself in the squad, get in there by training every day, working hard and hopefully doing it when I get on the pitch.

"Making a first appearance of the season and then going into an international break isn’t ideal but it gives the boys in there a bit of time to rest and recuperate after a hard few weeks."
