Jamie Murphy a transfer target for Blackpool with Simon Grayson desperate to finally land Rangers star

Blackpool are keeping tabs on Rangers comeback star Jamie Murphy .

The 29-year-old is on the verge of a first-team return after suffering a horror cruciate knee injury last August in a game at Kilmarnock.

And while boyhood Rangers fan Murphy is determined to make his mark under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox, Blackpool are tracking his levels after a year out as they ponder a move to lure the former Brighton star back down south.

Seasiders boss Simon Grayson looked to sign Murphy for Sunderland two years ago.

Now the English League One side – in Scotland for a friendly against Dundee tonight– could make a move if he proves his fitness. Murphy is due to step up his comeback tonight when a Rangers XI face Ayr.

Meanwhile, Gerrard is backing his players to rise to the Europa League challenge when they take on St Joseph's on Tuesday.

He said: “The experience of last season should stand us in good stead. It raises expectations but if you’re not prepared to deal with expectations at Rangers you’re in the wrong place.

“The pitch causes us no concerns. My players should be used to artificial surfaces given the amount of times we played on them last year.

“We have seen the two games St Joseph’s have played in the competition so far. They will be well- drilled. We will have to play well to get a result.”
