Jamie McGrath could star for Celtic insists Jim Goodwin as St Mirren boss talks up midfield standout

Jim Goodwin insists Jamie McGrath would slot in perfectly at Celtic – but he warned it will take silly money to snap up the Paisley playmaker.

Record Sport revealed Aberdeen are in the hunt to land the 24-year-old and Goodwin says he’s been approached by three managers in England and one in Scotland about the availability of the former Dundalk star.

But Scottish Cup semi-finalists St Mirren are in no rush to sell their top asset and Goodwin believes the midfielder would be best sitting tight for at least another term.

Goodwin – who also revealed he’s keeping tabs on out-of-contract St Johnstone ace Michael O’Halloran – said: “Jamie has been one of our star performers all season.

“We’re lucky we’ve got him tied up for next season so I’m planning for next season with him in our side.

“If somebody comes in with an outrageous bid in the summer then who knows what could happen.

“The good thing about him is he’s a very intelligent and level-headed young man and he wont be influenced by the first decent offer that gets.”

Goodwin believes McGrath is tailor made for an eventual move to Parkhead.

He said: “Jamie for me is a Celtic player. I look at some of the lads who are there now, the likes of David Turnbull, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie. I can see Jamie being in and among that level of player.”
