Jamie McCart heaps praise on team-mates for "incredible job" at Celtic Park

The feeling when leaving Celtic Park with a point is usually one of sheer delight.

But central defender Jamie McCart admits there was reason for disappointment after Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Saints had taken the lead through Chris Kane with 79 minutes on the clock and looked set to stun their Glasgow hosts.

The Perth rearguard had defended admirably throughout with goalkeeper Zander Clark making a number of fine stops.

Neil Lennon’s men did manage to hit back, however, when Mohamed Elyounoussi’s looping header found the corner of the net.

“Normally if you get a point at Celtic you would be absolutely delighted,” said McCart.

“Taking the 1-0 lead and limiting them to few chances, it is probably disappointing that we conceded in the end.

“It’s a lot of luck on their part. The boy tries to flick it on and somehow it goes into the top corner.

“Overall it’s a brilliant performance from us. Tactically we set up really well and did our jobs. I think that showed.

“As a unit we were excellent. The boys in front of us did an incredible job.

“Liam Gordon’s first game as captain, he was excellent. And Shaun Rooney coming back in was excellent.”

The Celtic Park draw meant that Saints’ impressive unbeaten run continued and now sits at 11 matches.

Manager Callum Davidson last tasted defeat at the beginning of October.

McCart added: “It [unbeaten run] can go on as long as we keep performing to the levels we are.

“We’ve got a few home games coming up so we’ll be looking to add a few more wins. It’s been an excellent run.

“Maybe we had a wee bit of a slow start with the results but we were still playing well and training hard.

“Even if we had a bad result, the positivity was still the same. That has helped the boys to keep morale high.

“I think it definitely is an exciting time to be a St Johnstone fan.

“We have a young squad, a young manager and play a nice style of football. We play open, expansive, attacking football. Hopefully we give the fans more to cheer.”
