Jamie McAllister 'delighted' for Ross Stewart after injury setbacks

Jamie McAllister says he's delighted for Sunderland new boy Ross Stewart.

The Black Cats new signing made his debut away at Accrington in midweek and scored the opening goal for Lee Johnson's side.

Stewart was first named in the Sunderland squad in the final of the EFL Trophy against Tranmere Rovers and got a medal despite not featuring at Wembley.

"I'm delighted for the big man because he's had a bit of a tough time with injury," said McAllister. "He came back and then got a nick again.

"He was getting a bit of stick because he'd been at Wembley on the bench and that was his first involvement in the squad.

"No games, no goals and I think the gaffer mentioned it the other day - one medal.

"Today it's one game, one goal, one medal and it's not bad that. I'm saying that's what I would've done if I was him. He's too nice a guy and not a bad record he's got now."
