Jamie Lynn Spears ditches attempt to take control of Britney Spears' finances

Britney Spears ' younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears has reportedly dropped a petition that would have given her more oversight of the pop princess' finances.

The 29-year-old actress is said to have informed the court that she does not want to pursue plans to become head of the singer's trust.

Jamie's latest u-turn comes months after Britney's unusual conservatorship was flung into the spotlight alongside the Free Britney movement.

According to documents that had been obtained by The Blast, Jamie Lynn informed the court that she was withdrawing the petition that had originally been filed in August.

The decision was revealed during a court hearing that took place this week.

A representative for Jamie Lynn has been contacted for comment by MirrorOnline.

Britney has been involved with a conservatorship ever since her breakdown in 2007, meaning that her dad Jamie had oversight of her finances.

Her father and temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery have been in charge of handling Britney's personal affairs for the past twelve years.

Britney's sister Jamie Lynn was also named as a trustee of her multi-billion dollar estate to ensure that the singer's assets get passed onto her children.

However, the Toxic songstress does not want Jamie to be involved and has requested that the management of her business and personal affairs be handed over to the Bessemer Trust Company.

The controversial arrangement has led some fans to call for the Free Britney movement amid concerns that the mum of two was forced into the arrangement.

Opening up about Britney's 'challenging' year, Jamie Lynn recently spoke to Good Morning America about her sister.

"I think that she’s doing just like the rest of us," Jamie Lynn explained.

"She’s trying to make the best and stay positive during a very challenging time and challenging year, and I think that that’s kind of the theme of everyone right now," Jamie Lynn concluded.
