Jamie Lynn Spears calls Britney and Justin Timberlake her 'parents' and says 'divorce is hard'

Britney Spears' little sister has made a joke about her old relationship with Justin Timberlake.

Jamie Lynn, 29, joked that the former couple were her "parents" and that they'd been through a difficult "divorce".

Her big sister dated Justin for three years and they were pop's golden couple before they split up in 2002.

One of the most memorable moments of their relationship was when they attended the 2001 American Music Awards together in matching blue denim outfits.

Britney, now 39, was dressed in a strapless denim gown and carried a matching denim handbag, while Justin, also 39, wore a full denim suit with a cowboy hat in the same material.

Nylon magazine shared a picture of the couple wearing the kooky outfits to Instagram celebrate the iconic moment's 20th anniversary this week.

They wrote: "This superb outfit coordination took place 20 years ago this month.

"And I promise it doesn't make me feel old knowing that."

Amongst the Instagram users celebrating the anniversary in the comments was Jamie Lynn.

"My parents," she wrote. "Divorce is hard."

Britney and Justin were Hollywood's 'it-couple' from the moment they got together in 1998.

They had met on Mickey Mouse Club as children.

But they had a bitter breakup that played out very publicly.

Justin Timberlake reportedly wrote 'Cry Me a River' about their split and Britney's alleged relationship with her backup dancer and choreographer Wade Robson.
